I wrote and recorded the melody for a short film somebody was making in New Orleans. I wrote the lyric later. It captures a lazy kind of mood. I offered it to my record label for inclusion for a compilation. It was rejected due to it's mind altering subject, (there was a song about addiction and recovery already on the playlist and I guess we didn't want there to be a theme)
I don't even think about the substance abuse aspect to the lyrics. I guess I just wanted to express a tone of relaxation. Maybe I should think about it?
lyrics
Sweet Baby listen to me,
I wanna be what I wanna be.
Tonight lets turn this old town all around.
I've had some wine and I'm feeling OK.
Come hold me down,
cause i might just float away.
Sweet Baby listen to me,
I wanna see what I wanna see.
Tonight lets turn this old town upside down.
I've had some whiskey but not too much.
I long to feel your warm soft body
and roll like that old river rolls down south.
If I say too much just shut my mouth.
Sweet Baby listen to me.
I wanna see what you wanna be.
Tonight lets turn this old town inside out.
I've had some beers and there's still plenty.
Come over here when you're good and ready
to roll like that old river rolls down south.
If I say too much just shut my mouth.
Sweet Baby listen to me.
I wanna be what you wanna see.
Tonight lets turn this old town all around.
I've had some weed and I'm feeling mellow.
You're all I need to be a happy fellow
and roll like that old river rolls down south
and If I say too much just kiss my mouth.

I loved this song a lot without context. Then at one of Kristin's shows she explained the context of this album and it broke me (in a good way).
It is still very good but now it moves me much deeper than before. jjw

The Sons are back, baby. Setting the standard for alt-country in the PNW. If you haven't listened to "Down In Pancake Valley", you oughta. douglasdupont
